Do you trust that the God of the Bible, Yahweh, can do what He says? The entire Bible is full of promises of healing, deliverance, provision, protection. There is no end to what He wants to do for us if we are willing to trust Him. So the questions is, do you believe He is willing and able to do what He promised?
If you want someone to do something for you, you know it is so much easier if everything is ok between you two. If you are righteous in a relationship, you know there are no hindrances, and you can trust your friend to do what they promised. Righteousness is the key to make every relationship work.
Take marriage for instance. Each spouse has a responsibility to maintain their own righteousness to make the marriage work. What is righteousness? Doing things right. So each spouse must do things right in the marriage. If one of them decided they did not have to do anything because “Bob” down the street who has a perfect marriage did it all, that marriage would fail. You can not rely on another person’s righteousness in marriage to make it work. You have to your righteousness. You can not rely on another person righteousness to make any relationship work. You have to have your righteousness.
Mainstream Christianity would tell you the imputed righteousness of Jesus is enough to get Yahweh to fulfill His promises to you. That is not what the Bible teaches. The Bible says the imputed righteousness of Jesus is what gets us into heaven when we die and reconciles us to Yahweh here on this earth. But that is also all it does, it gets us into heaven when we die and reconciles us to Yahweh on this earth as long as we live. So we cant do without it, but it will never fulfill any of Yahweh promises for this life. (Acts 15, John 3:16)
You can not go through life basing your relationship to Yahweh on someone else’s righteousness. You can only have a connection to Yahweh if you have a righteousness of your own. The imputed righteousness of Yeshua is essential; we cant do without it because we need it when we die and we need it to be reconciled to Yahweh while we are alive. But it will never build a relationship to Yahweh.
So what will build a relationship with Yahweh? Our righteousness, and what is righteousness? It is doing things right.
1.John 3:4 tells us righteousness is obeying the law of Moses. So to have our righteousness, we must abide by the law of Moses. We also remember from last weeks teachings how the way to salvation in Acts 15 was faith in Yeshua’s death, repentance from eating things strangled, things with blood, idol worship, sexual immorality AND learning the law of Moses and obeying it.
So the Bible never teaches that we should just have faith in Jesus and what He did for us. It is always faith + repentance + obedience=salvation and the Matthew 6:25-34 life. (James 2:14-26)
Psalm 1 is just one of many examples in the Bible how our righteousness is the key that unlocks the many promises of Yahweh. If we delight to do His law (the Mosaic law), we will be blessed, and whatever we do shall prosper. (Psalm 1:3, Deut 28:1-13, Matthew 6:25-34)
The imputed righteousness of Yeshua will never get you healed, delivered, protected. It will never open up the promises of Yahweh in your life. No relationship is built on another person’s righteousness. If you want a relationship with Yahweh and see His promises fulfilled in your life, you have to have your righteousness. You can only be righteous if you choose by your own free will to obey the law of Moses.
So you got to have them both, the imputed righteousness of Yeshua and your righteousness that can only come by you choosing to obey the law of Moses.
Is it difficult for you to trust Yahweh sometimes? If it is difficult for you to trust that He is willing to heal you, provide for you, protect you?
Why should Yahweh heal someone, provide for and protect a person who does not care to be righteous but only relies on another person’s righteousness?
So the reason why it is difficult for you is that you know deep down inside you are not righteous. You believe Yeshua died for you, but you also think you can sail through life depended upon another person’s righteousness. If you lived like that in your marriage, it would quickly fail.
When mainstream Christianity teaches you all you have to do is believe Jesus died for you, it is lying to you. The Bible does not say that. Mainstream Christianity is not only lying to you; it is hindering you from living the righteous life you are supposed to live as a child of God.
If you would start building a relationship with Yahweh, based on your righteousness which can only come through obedience to the law of Moses, you will soon see it is easy to trust Him. It is easy to trust that He is willing to heal you and give you all His promises as long as you know you are righteous.
So make sure you are not trusting in the imputed righteousness of Yeshua to have your needs met in this life. You can not do without it; it is vitally important because it reconciles you to Yahweh and will bring you through the door to heaven when you die. But it will never get you anything while you are alive on this earth. To have your needs met on this earth by Yahweh, you have to have your righteousness as well. And your righteousness can only come through obedience to the law of Moses.
Then it is easy to trust that Yahweh wants to fulfill His promises to you.
