Do you bear the name of Christ? Perhaps this is a strange question for some of you, so let me try to rephrase it. What do people see when they look at your life? Do they see someone who is the spitting image of Yeshua (1.John 2:6)? Or do they see someone who believes Jesus died for their sins and rose again on the third day?
In Matthew 7:21-23 we see the people who believe Jesus died for their sins and rose again on the third day. Their faith was not enough for Yeshua to acknowledge them. He told them He did not know who they were and even though they had lived their entire life as Christians, they were not allowed to enter heaven when they died.
James 2:14-26 teaches us that if we have faith in Yeshua dying for us on a cross that trust has to show itself in obedience to the law of Moses. We all know that Yehovah had divorced us because we had been unfaithful to Him and chosen to obey other gods and their rules. (Jer 3:8) This is why 1.John 3:7 says sin is breaking the law of Moses. When Yeshua died, He who had never been unfaithful to Yehovah was judged for our unfaithfulness and adultery. If we accept this in faith, we are saved, but if we are saved, it would be foolish of us not to obey the law of Moses. Choosing to accept this, but not obeying the law of Moses, is like the unfaithful spouse wanting to come back to their first husband or wife but wanting to commit adultery all over again.
So it is obvious the group in Matthew 7:21-23 are those who have accepted the cross, but they do not want to stay faithful to Yehovah, so their faith is dead. (James 2:14-26)
John 5:43 teaches us how Yeshua came in His Fathers name. We remember from yesterday how Yeshua is short for Yehoshua which means Yehovah saves. So when Yeshua says in John 5:43 He has come in His Fathers name, we know He is telling us His name is Yehovah.
1.John 2:6 says if we are in Christ we have to live as He lived. Yeshua was a Jew who obeyed every commandment in the Mosaic law that applied to Him. So if we claim to be in Him, we have to obey every commandment in the Mosaic law that applies to us. (James 2:14-26, John 14:15)
If we are obeying every commandment that applies to us, we are in Yeshua. If we are in Yeshua, we are in the name of Yehovah (John 5:43). By being in the name, we are kept safe (John 17:12) and loved (John 17:26). If we are in the name, we will dwell in the secret place of Yehovah under the shadow of His wings (Psalm 91:1). We will be set on high because we know His name (Psalm 91:14, Deut 28:1-13).
All of these wonderful promises and more can only come to us if we are in the name of Yehovah. The only way for us to be in the name is to believe Yeshua died for our sins and obeyed the commandments in the law of Moses that applies to us. If we do this, people around us will see we are the spitting image of Yeshua (1.John 2:6), and we will not be among those who will hear those terrible words “depart from me for I never knew you.”
Are you the spitting image of Yeshua?
